ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays (49-49), losers of three straight and five of their last six, will look to avoid a sweep today against the Marlins (43-57) at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. In what might be a trade audition, right-hander Chris Archer (3-4, 4.29 ERA) takes the mound for Tampa Bay. Rookie right-hander Trevor Richards (3-5, 4.74) gets the nod for Miami.
"I turn 30 in a couple months," Archer told the Tampa Bay Times last week. "I want to play the game for 10 more years, but there's nothing guaranteed in life. I want to experience winning."
In Archer's last outing, manager Kevin Cash pulled him after 4.1 innings (93 pitches). He allowed one earned run against the Twins — a home run — and struck out seven.

• Shortstop Willy Adames is back, less than two weeks after the Rays sent him down to Triple-A Durham. He will replace Adeiny Hechavarria, who left Saturday night's game during the seventh inning because of left oblique soreness. Before Adames was sent down, he was hitting .216/.263/.341 with five extra-base hits and nine RBIs in 88 at bats.
• To make room for Adames, the Rays optioned outfielder Justin Williams. Williams grounded into a double play in his only at bat Saturday.
• Centerfielder Kevin Kiermaier will miss his second straight game because of a bone bruise in his right foot. He's hoping he can return to action Monday night against the Yankees. Mallex Smith gets the start in his place.
• Third baseman Matt Duffy returns and will bat second. He was scratched from Friday's lineup because of back spasms.
• Veteran catcher Adam Moore, 34, will start his first game of the season for the Rays. He hasn't had a major-league at bat since late in the 2016 season.
