Rays RHP Andrew Kittredge was suspended three games and fined an undisclosed amount by MLB for "throwing a pitch in the area of the head" of Yankees C Austin Romine on Thursday.

The suspension goes into effect at the start of the 2019 season; Kittredge said he is likely to appeal.

"I'm a little disappointed obviously," Kittredge said. "I guess I'm not overly surprised that it happened."

Yankees LHP CC Sabathia was suspended five games and fined for his retaliatory strike of throwing at Rays C Jesus Sucre. He will appeal, with the discipline starting in 2019 also.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said he talked several times with MLB execs Joe Torre and Peter Woodfork and understood their process, and expects some resolution during the off-season.

"I understand, I do," Cash said. "I get it. … Kitt will go through the appeals process and let it be heard, his viewpoint and go from there."

Kittredge said he wasn't concerned about the suspension carrying over, which could be an issue if he starts the year in the minor leagues as a team might be less inclined to call him up if he couldn't pitch for the first three games.

"That's down the road, I'm trying to not worry about that right now," he said. "Three games is three games, but definitely not overly concerned at this point."
