Get ready for the best kind of splitting earache.

Queens of the Stone Age, one of the best hard rock bands on this or any other planet, are returning to Tampa Bay with a concert at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg on May 2. Tickets to the show — part of a just-expanded world tour in support of their new album Villains — start at $39.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Click here for info.

As an added bonus, Queens are bringing as openers Wolf Alice, the upstart Australian rockers best known for their Grammy-nominated hit Moaning Lisa Smile. This'll be Wolf Alice's first show in Tampa Bay, too, so get in on while you can.

The last time Josh Homme and company played the Mahaffey, it was our favorite local concert of 2014. From our review:

"Homme is a merciless bruiser at heart, and when the volume cranked up, so did his swagger. On the concussive Burn the Witch; the fuzzy, loosey-goosey Misfit Love and … Like Clockwork's My God Is The Sun — a song so crushing it closed out this year's Grammys — Homme glared around the house like a man sizing up a sketchy bar, practically daring fans not to surrender their sweat. Yet his body betrayed a funny delight in the moment, as his hips and torso swayed to the beat of each devilish song."

Cannot WAIT for this one.
