Miss Florida Nicolette Jennings is reading 'The Champion's Mind'

We caught up with Jennings, Miss Florida 2019, as she made her way to compete in Miss USA in Nevada on May 2. The Maryland native graduated from the University of Florida in 2018 with a bachelor of science degree in telecommunications. She spent the last NFL season as a sports reporter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is aiming to receive her master's degree in sports management.

What's on your nightstand?

The Champion's Mind: How Great Athletes Think, Train, and Thrive by Jim Afremow. I recommend this book to everyone because it makes you change your mind-set about competing not only in sports but in everyday life. You are so motivated to push yourself past any and all boundaries after reading it!

Who was your favorite author as a teenager, and why?

As a teenager, my favorite author was Nicholas Sparks. I wanted to read every one of his books after watching The Notebook. In all of his love story books, he pulls you in with the characters and makes you feel the emotions he feels.

Since you represent the Sunshine State, do you have a favorite book on your adopted state?

I really enjoyed The History of Florida by Michael Gannon. It was given to me as a gift by my brother and I felt it really told the history of Florida in a way that made you never want to put the book down. It's very fact driven; however, you really understand the history of Florida after reading it.

When you think of your career path, was there an author early on who inspired you?

I don't remember any sports authors, but I see Erin Andrews as a storyteller who has motivated me and my goal of becoming a sports reporter for a major sports network. She pushed me as a young girl to work hard, and I'm still motivated by her today to continue pushing the boundaries in the sports industry and achieve my dreams.
