BROOKSVILLE — A Brooksville woman died Friday after driving a minibike into the path of an oncoming van, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Jayne Elaine Hamlet, 39, was riding her minibike eastbound from a private driveway about 2:45 p.m.and rode into the path of a Ford E-250 van going north on Weeping Willow Street.

Hamlet was transported to Oak Hill Hospital but later died from her injuries. Troopers said she was not wearing a helmet.

The van was driven by a 16-year-old Spring Hill boy. Neither he nor his 16-year-old passenger were injured.

No charges are being brought in the accident.

Hamlet's death comes almost a year after she was hurt in a motorcycle accident in Homosassa, according to Citrus County Chronicle report. She was the passenger on a bike that hit the curb while traveling at a high speed, the highway patrol said. She was treated at Oak Hill for non-incapacitating injuries.
