Quinten Perez had already suffered one accident Sunday morning. He had lost control of his Toyota Tacoma while driving northbound on Interstate 75 in Pasco County, causing it to flip over in the middle of the highway.
About 2:15 a.m., the 23-year-old Brooksville man got out of the Toyota and tried to help his passenger, Weston Reynolds, 21, of Masaryktown, who was trapped in the overturned truck.
That's when the second car came.
That is according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol about the crashes early Sunday morning near mile marker 291.5 on I-75 that left one dead and three injured.
Enner Moran, 24, of Gainesville, didn't see the flipped truck in the middle of the highway. He hit the overturned truck and then struck Perez, FHP said.
Perez died at the scene. Reynolds, his passenger, was airlifted to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point with serious injuries. Moran and his passenger, 22-year-old Marvin Lopez, suffered minor injuries in the accident.
Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in either crash.
