NEW PORT RICHEY — Gunshots were fired, one vehicle chased another and a pickup truck driver ended up with a gunshot wound to the leg on Monday, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
All that may have been sparked by a leaf blower
The identities of those involved in the incident was not released by Sheriff's Office, which gave this account of what happened:
Someone took a leaf blower from a truck Sunday night. However, the theft was not reported at the time.
Come Monday morning, a woman who owns the leaf blower said she noticed someone in a white pickup pull it from "a pile of brush." Deputies said her husband then drove off after the white truck that contained what the couple believed was their leaf blower.
During the chase, shots were fired, deputies said, perhaps in a number of locations.
The chase came to an end in the parking lot at 5331 Main St., deputies said, when the husband fired into the door of the pickup and struck the driver in the leg.
The wounded driver was taken to a local hospital with what deputies called non-life threatening injuries.
The husband was taken into custody and the firearm was seized. The Sheriff's Office did not release any other details about the incident, but it appears that an arrest will be made in this case.
