A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash Saturday night, St. Petersburg police say.

At about 8:30 p.m., Michael Paul Lyon was driving his Kawasaki motorcycle westbound on 40th Avenue NE near 11th Street, according to a release from the St. Petersburg Police Department.

At the same time, the driver of a Hyundai Sonata, 71-year-old Margaret Sherry Capabianco, was headed eastbound on 40th Avenue NE.

As Capabianco approached a driveway, she turned left — directly into Lyon's path, the release said. Lyon collided with the right side of Capabianco's car.

Responding authorities took Lyon to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was pronounced dead from the injuries he sustained in the crash, the release said.

"Impairment was not a factor for Capabianco," the release said.
