TAMPA — Police are looking for a man who assaulted a woman and then shot a bystander who tried to intervene on Saturday night.
The incident took place at about 2 a.m. at the 7-Eleven at 1930 N Dale Mabry Highway. A witness said he saw a man assaulting a woman as the pair sat inside a red Ford F-150 pickup truck in the parking lot, according to Tampa police.
When the witness tried to intervene, he told police, the man got out and they got into a physical altercation. The witness said he punched the man in self-defense.
Then the man went back into the truck, retrieved a gun and shot the witness in the left shoulder and drove off in the red truck.
The shooter was described as a hispanic male, ages 30 to 40, heavy set and standing about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 tall. He was wearing a dark T-shirt and blue jeans.
Tampa police want to find the gunman and also want to locate the woman out of concerns for her safety. She was described as white, in her 20s, standing about 5-feet tall with straight blonde or light brown hair.
