An unknown number of Frontier Communications customers in and around Carrollwood lost internet service for about eight hours early Tuesday morning. According to spokesman Bob Elek, the phone, internet and cable provider experienced a technical issue with one of its routers that caused the outage beginning at 3:45 a.m. It was resolved by 11:20 a.m.
"The large-scale routers that we have in our central offices are really no different than what you have at home," he said. "We just had a problem with one of the pieces of our equipment."
Elek said he was unable to provide the number of customers affected.
