The trust benefitting the widow of Nelson Poynter has withdrawn its lawsuit against the Times Publishing Co. after reaching a settlement with her late husband's former newspaper.

The suit filed in federal court in Virginia on behalf of Marion K. Poynter's trust had sought $7.8 million plus interest. Poynter, 92, claimed the Times had failed to make regular payments to the trust, originally set up in 1990.

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

"We are pleased that we could resolve this without further litigation on terms that serve both Mrs. Poynter and the company," said Sherri Day, spokeswoman for the Tampa Bay Times.
