Gas prices are unseasonably low just days before Memorial Day weekend.

According to AAA, the Auto Club Group, Florida gas prices averaged $2.64 a gallon Monday, down 7 cents over the week, while Tampa Bay prices were down about 10 cents over the week, averaging $2.57 a gallon. Nationally, gas was $2.64 per gallon Monday.

"A lot of it is refineries getting back on track after a longer than normal maintenance season," said Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman. If gas prices continue on this trend, he said, Florida drivers might be paying as much as 30 cents per gallon less than this time last year.

Gas prices in Florida averaged $2.91 a gallon in 2018, $2.31 a gallon in 2017 and $2.25 a gallon in 2016.
