Mark Howard is executive editor of Florida Trend, the state’s premiere business publication. As editor, he is responsible for working with the magazine’s editors, writers, designers and web staff to originate and produce all the original content that goes into the magazine and onto the website, Floridatrend.com.
Mark was born in Wilmington, N.C. and moved to Florida in 1960 after his father’s employer, the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (now CSX), relocated here. He grew up in and was graduated from high school in Jacksonville. He is a graduate of Duke University and has a master's degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Before joining Florida Trend in 1996, Mark worked for the Nashville Banner, the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Newsday on Long Island, and the Sarasota Herald Tribune, where he was executive business editor and city editor. Along the way, in the early 1980s, he worked for the Tennessee State Department of Education during the administration of Gov. Lamar Alexander and was recognized for his contribution to a program that was part of Alexander’s education reform effort.
Mark has been executive editor of Florida Trend since 1998. He is a graduate of Class XVII of Leadership Florida.
Mark lives in St. Petersburg. His daughter is a freshman at Columbia University in New York City. His son is a freshman in the International Baccalaureate program at St. Petersburg High School.
