Ron Brackett is Deputy Managing Editor of and presentation.

 In his early years, he worked as a copy editor, designer, bureau editor and metro/regional
news editor. In 2001, he became executive news editor and guided the Times through
coverage of some monumental news stories, including the deaths of Princess Diana,
former President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II, the 9/11 terror attacks, the
Columbia explosion, the start of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and Saddam Hussein’s

In 2004, Ron became director of the Newsart department and guided the work of graphic
journalists and artists. In 2009, as senior editor/days, Ron helped create the Now team,
which oversees the Times’ website, Later that year, he became senior
editor/ nights to direct the editing of the daily newspaper and oversee breaking news

In January 2012, he was promoted to assistant managing editor/ editing and design. In
this role he supervises the designers, copy editors and news artists and directs all news
operations at night. In June 2014, Ron was named deputy managing editor in charge of as well as presentation and copy desks.

Ron was also part of the committee that decided how the Times would celebrate its 125th
anniversary in 2009, which led to the coffee table book, Tampa Bay Through the Times,
which Ron co-edited with Rob Hooker.

Ron graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in
journalism. He was a reporting intern for Stars and Stripes, based in Darmstadt,
Germany, and began his professional career as a copy editor/designer at the Greenville
(S.C.) News.

Ron is married to Janice Brackett, a designer at the Times. They have a son, Benjamin,
and a daughter, Molly.
