Artist of the day: Bill Stabile

Published June 21, 2012

Bill Stabile has been singing the songs of Frank Sinatra since his parents gave him his first Sinatra album, Sinatra and Swingin' Brass, when he was just 8 years old. The album (which Stabile played until it wore out) includes hits such as I Get a Kick Out of You and They Can't Take That Away From Me.

But it wasn't until the 1990s, while working as a postal inspector in Brooklyn, that Stabile decided to take it to the stage, performing Sinatra hits such as New York, New York, Strangers in the Night, Come Fly With Me and The Lady is a Tramp. When Stabile and his wife retired to Citrus County six years ago, he decided to perform Sinatra full time. He performs his show, Songs of Sinatra — a Tribute to Ol' Blue Eyes, at venues throughout Florida.

"I don't consider myself an impersonator," Stabile said. "I consider myself a tribute artist."

On Friday, Stabile brings his show to the Lake House to kick off the Spring Hill Community Association's Summer Cabaret Series. The show is at 6 p.m. at the Lake House, 1202 Kenlake Ave., Spring Hill. Tickets are $25, dinner included. For more info on Stabile or the show, click here for Phyllis Day's full profile.
