Readers may recall that when Hillsborough County commissioners made Mike Merrill their administrator in December 2010, he was living in Pinellas County. That was a problem, since the county's charter requires that the administrator live inside Hillsborough County limits. At the same time, Merrill had only moved across the bay that same year. So commissioners gave him a year, until the end of this past December, to move back to Hillsborough. We checked in with the administrator recently to see if he made good. Merrill says he did indeed return, signing a lease for a Westchase apartment on Dec. 23 and moving in five days later. And, yes, Merrill's basenji pup, Suni, whom he had adopted from Hillsborough County Animal Services a month before getting the job, joined him. "She got through this better than I did," Merrill said.
