It has begun.
The annual cavalcade of summer metal festivals (Warped, Uproar, Rock Allegiance, etc.) got rolling Wednesday with the unveiling of the lineup for the 2012 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival: Slipknot (above), Slayer, Anthrax (who will be in Tampa next week, actually) The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying, Asking Alexandria, Whitechapel, High On Fire and at least one other big mainstage act to be announced in March. (The interwebs are saying it's rumored to be Motorhead, but Lamb of God and Five Finger Death Punch have also been mentioned.)
This year, the Mayhem Festival will hit Tampa's 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre on July 13 -- and interestingly, it's the festival's only date in Florida. Predictably, this has some SoFla fans upset. "WTF they better put west palm back on the tour," wrote one fan on Mayhem's website. "south florida fans like myself are f---ing pissed!!!!!!!" (What this means, of course, is that Tampa can probably look forward to a one-day invasion of thousands of Slipknot fans from around the state. Goody!)
Ticket info wasn't announced just yet, but keep an eye on Mayhem's official website for info. Click here for the details.
