data_1.jpgAngie Murphy, an assistant principal at Mitchell High School since 2009, has been appointed to take over the principal's job at Ridgewood High. The Ridgewood position became vacant after its leader, Andy Frelick, was transferred to run Zephyrhills High upon the resignation of Steve Van Gorden, who faced sexual harassment allegations.

Murphy, 33, recently participated in the district's principal pool academy. She oversaw the district's secondary education curriculum before moving to Mitchell.

"Angie has demonstrated and been an example of an accomplished leader," said assistant superintendent John Mann, who ran the principal academy. "Her knowledge of curriculum is excellent ... and of how to move instruction forward. ... She is really good."

She faces a potentially tough job at Ridgewood, which has shown academic improvement since landing on the state's lowest performing schools list a couple of years ago, raising its state grade from D to B, but remains on the district's "Assist" program.

Murphy's appointment goes to the School Board for approval on Tuesday.
