Weezer coming to the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg

We're sensing a pattern this week on Soundcheck. First a huge act books a show in Orlando, then we hear they're also coming to Tampa Bay. It happened with Fiona Apple. And now it's happening with Weezer.

Rivers Cuomo and company are coming to the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg on Nov. 9. At this point, it's just a one-night stand, so if you're a diehard fan of the "Blue Album" and Pinkerton, you may still want to pick up tickets to those special shows on Nov. 10 and 11 at Hard Rock Live in Orlando. But for most fans, this'll be good enough. Weezer hasn't played Tampa Bay since a 2005 gig with Foo Fighters at the then-St. Pete Times Forum, and they have enough hits to put on a really fun show. Maybe they'll throw in a cover of Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks or Radiohead's Paranoid Android, as they did at last year's DeLuna Festival.

Tickets start at an amazingly reasonable $29.50, and they go onsale July 13. Sean Daly has all the details.
