Democrats this morning in Miami will stage a "rally" to highlight Donald Trump's $25,000 donation to Attorney General Pam Bondi, seeking to capitalize on growing media attention.
Former legislator Dan Gelber and others will gather outside the AG's office in Miami at 9 a.m., according to a news release from the Florida Democratic Party.
Bondi has kept silent as the issue has resurfaced in recent days. Trump's donation came amid questions over his real estate seminars. Bondi says consumer complaints never reached her office, but scrutiny is building.
The Tampa Bay Times editorial board today pressed for a federal investigation, mirroring other calls for an independent probe:
"Trump had not contributed to Bondi's election campaigns before sending the $25,000, and he was clear during a Republican primary debate about what he expects in return for campaign contributions: 'When they call, I give. And you know what? When I need something from them, two years later, three years later, I call them. They are there for me.' "
