Half-marathon runners to descend on downtown St. Petersburg on Sunday

ST. PETERSBURG — Roughly 4,500 runners will descend upon downtown St. Petersburg on Sunday morning for the Lady Speed Stick Women's Half Marathon St. Pete.

The event, which also includes a 5K, will begin at 7 a.m. and force the closure of several streets, mostly downtown. The race will start at Albert Whitted Airport, winding north along the waterfront to Snell Isle and 34th Avenue NE before coming back downtown along Coffee Pot Bayou, then heading to and around Tropicana Field via First Avenue S and ending back at the airport.

Major street closures, expected between 5 and 11:30 a.m., include Coffee Pot Boulevard NE, Snell Isle Boulevard NE, Bayshore Drive NE, First Avenue S, Second Avenue NE, Mirror Lake Drive N, Monterey Boulevard NE and Almedo Way.

The event is being put on by the Competitor Group, organizers of the Rock 'n' Roll St. Pete Half Marathon. For those who want to watch the race, suggested viewing locations include Vinoy Park, the base of the Pier and Tropicana Field.
