What do you get a tiger for Christmas?
It turns out the folks at Big Cat Rescue in Tampa know just the answer to that: decorated trees and packages filled with food treats or cinnamon spices. On Thursday, they invited members of the media to watch as tigers Shere Kahn and China Doll discovered a decorated Christmas tree in their enclosure and "opened" their presents. Big Cat Recue volunteers had spent weeks creating decorations for the trees and wrapping boxes and packages filled with the goodies.
Part of the reason for creating this holiday hullabaloo is to provide stimulation for the cats, who generally come from abusive situations or have been abandoned. The sanctuary is home to more than 100 big cats, including lions, tigers, leopards, lynx and bobcats. It's located at 12802 Easy St., or check online at bigcatrescue.org.
