Zac Brown Band to play nonpartisan show in Tampa during RNC

Add another musical heavyweight to the list of celebrities coming to Tampa for next week's Republican National Convention: the Zac Brown Band.

The Grammy-winning country group, who sold out the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre in January, will perform at a cruise ship terminal at the Port of Tampa during an event organized by the American Petroleum Institute. The nonpartisan event is part of API's Vote4Energy campaign, designed to urge leaders to invest in alternatives to foreign oil, including natural gas, nuclear energy and biofuels.

The private party will take place on Aug. 30 following the RNC's final session at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. API spokeswoman Sabrina Fang said a similar event is planned during the National Democratic Convention in Charlotte, this one featuring O'Malley's March, a Celtic rock band fronted by Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley. API CEO Jack N. Gerard will also speak at various panels and events throughout the RNC.
