Winner of the week

Strategic Image Management. The Tampa-based political consulting shop run by Republican Anthony Pedicini and Tom Piccolo helped win two state House special election primaries last week: Bobby Olszewski in the Orlando area and Lawrence McClure over Yvonne Fry in Hillsborough. The firm has been involved, and repeatedly winning, in five special elections this year, as well as working with current and future House speakers including Richard Corcoran of Land O’Lakes, Jose Oliva of Miami Lakes and Chris Sprowls of Palm Harbor.

Loser of the week

Dennis Baxley. The state senator and funeral director from Ocala had to apologize for what he said about the 14 seniors who died in an overheated nursing home that lost power during Hurricane Irma: “Look at the population. You’re dealing with the 90-somethings. Some of these deaths would naturally occur, storm or no storm. Eventually, everyone who was in that nursing home will die. But we don’t need to attribute those all to the storm and bad policy.” Wow. This is the former head of Florida’s Christian Coalition, not exactly sounding pro-life.
