WASHINGTON – Republicans have unleashed a new attack on Sen. Bill Nelson with a robo call saying he "recklessly voted to shut down the United States government."

"It is infuriating, it is petty, and YOU deserve better from your elected official," the caller says.

The RNC call is going out to about 780,000 Florida voters and follows a Facebook ad we reported on Saturday. Nelson, up for re-election this year, is one of five Democrats from states Trump won targeted with calls.

On Sunday, Nelson expanded on his vote, pointing to the lack of disaster assistance for Florida.

"This is a serious situation, not a time for partisan politics. I am in the Capitol right now working hard to bring people together to reach a bipartisan consensus," Nelson said in response to the robocall.

"Millions of Americans have watched Democrats resist and obstruct President Trump at every move and they are watching Democrats put politics above people by voting for this shutdown," said Ronna McDaniel, RNC chair. "For the Democrats who choose once again to jeopardize government funding, November is going to be a wake-up call."
