Rep. Ron DeSantis doesn't appear to be in the mix for Veteran Affairs Secretary after all.

Shortly after a Washington Post story floated DeSantis' name for the top job at the embattled agency, a spokesman for the Republican and Florida gubernatorial candidate threw cold water on the speculation.

"As much as @adamputnam would like this to be true, @RonDeSantisFL is going to be the next Governor of Florida," Brad Herold tweeted. Putnam is the Florida Agriculture Commissioner and DeSantis' primary rival in the governor's race.

DeSantis is a favorite of President Donald Trump and is often an attack dog for the White House on Fox News. He served  in the U.S. Navy and remains a lieutenant commander in the Navy Reserves.

Trump is searching for a nominee to replace White House physician Ronny Jackson, who took his name out of contention amid allegations of professional misconduct.

The Post story suggested another person with Florida ties is a possibility: former Congressman Jeff Miller, could be in the mix for the job. Miller chaired the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs before retiring from Congress.
