Winner of the week
Kathy Castor and Lois Frankel. Friday's noon deadline came and went without anyone qualifying to run against U.S. Reps. Kathy Castor of Tampa and Lois Frankel of West Palm Beach, meaning the two Democrats won reelection with nary a vote cast. Florida's other 25 districts have a contested race.
Loser of the week I
Bill Nelson. Anybody seen any sign of pulse on the Democratic Senator's reelection campaign against Scott? Anybody seen any sign of a campaign at all, other than fundraising emails? Scott is already spending millions on TV to unseat Nelson, rolling out policy proposals to limit tax increases, and putting boots on the ground to mobilize voters.
Loser of the week II
Hispanic representation. In the Orlando-area Alan Grayson wants to unseat fellow Democrat Darren Soto in a congressional seat specifically drawn to give Puerto Ricans an excellent chance at winning the district. In Miami-Dade Donna Shalala probably will win her congressional race to succeed Ileana Rocs-Lehtinen, the Republican Cuban American who represented the area for three decades.
