Gov. Rick Scott debuted a new online-only ad in the Senate race Wednesday — his ninth ad overall — and it's mostly about Puerto Rico.
Days after Nelson mocked Scott for saying "I don't know what I would have done differently" than President Trump's oft-criticized federal response, Scott's 60-second ad accuses Nelson of playing politics over Puerto Rico and of making false attacks.
"Rick Scott leads. But Bill Nelson just complains about the federal government," a female narrator says. "Remember that after a half century in government, Nelson is the federal government. It's time for Bill Nelson to go."
The Nelson campaign's response: "This is typical Rick Scott, who always wants to blame the other person." Nelson's camp said Scott has refused to criticize the Trump administration, "which pulled critical resources from the island while people are hurting without electricity, potable water, and jobs."
Nelson quoted former Puerto Rico Gov. Pedro Rosselló, who has called the senator “a tireless advocate” for Puerto Rico in the Senate.
