Andrew Gillum. A sense of momentum, the "Big Mo," matters in Florida politics, and the Democratic candidate for governor led rival Ron DeSantis in two new polls this week. Gillum's a hot property, and big-name surrogates are lining up to boost his chances, from Michelle Obama to Hillary Clinton.
Loser of the week
Ron DeSantis. Behind in the polls and lacking a coherent, positive message, the untested DeSantis turned to a skilled hand, Susie Wiles, to take charge of his campaign. Wiles faces her biggest challenge and she doesn't have much time. People will soon start casting mail ballots. DeSantis needs to give voters a better reason to vote for him than repeating that Gillum is a "socialist."
