Winner and loser of the week in Florida politics

Winner of the week
Rick Scott. Crass as it may be to say amid so much hurricane destruction, but Michael stands to be a giant gift to the governor's campaign to unseat Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson. The only time in eight years that more than 50 percent of Floridians approved of the governor was following Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Now, in the final stretch of the campaign, he will be all over TV all the time in his Navy cap, presumably exuding competence and empathy while Sen. Nelson struggles for attention. Now, Scott just needs to make sure those Republican Panhandle voters get their ballots in.
Loser of the week
Coastal residents. Get ready for higher insurance premiums, courtesy of Michael. And flood zone dwellers you best pray that Congress finally comes up with a reasonable way to revamp the National Floor Insurance Program so it doesn't clobber millions of Florida homeowners and the state's real estate market.
