The two competed for a seat that was vacated by retiring Republican Jake Raburn. The district encompasses a swath of Hillsborough County that includes Riverview, Gibsonton, Apollo Beach, Sun City Center and Wimauma.

Beltran, 34, an attorney who attended Harvard,  said his legislative priorities include transparency and accountability in government, reducing waste and supporting the Trump administration by dealing with sanctuary cities in Florida.

“We worked hard, we ran a good race,” Beltran said. “We’re glad to have the trust of the people of southeast Hillsborough county.”

Beltran said he thinks current gun regulations make sense and he does not want to infringe on 2nd Amendment rights.

Beltran also said Medicaid is in desperate need of reform and should not be expanded until the problems are addressed. Expansion under the current system would lead to excessive tax burdens and a continuing trend of skyrocketing costs. Katt supported Medicaid expansion, saying it would provide over a half-million Floridians with access to affordable health care.
