Winner and loser of the week in Florida politics

Winner of the week

Purdue Pharma. The maker of OxyContinOne, a key defendent in Florida's ongoing lawsuit against opioid makers, surely feels a tad better about its Florida clout after incoming attorney general Ashley Moody named its lobbyist a co-chairman of her inauguration committee. Mike Corcoran, the brother of former Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran, is the only non-elected official tapped as a co-chairman. Hopefully Moody will show a better grasp of the law and the interests of Floridians than she has about matters of public perception.

Loser of the week
Alexander Acosta. The U.S. Labor Secretary can kiss any future political ambitions goodbye after a blockbuster Miami Herald report detailing how the former U.S. attorney helped sexual predator Jeffrey Epstain win an incomprehensibly cushy sentence after molesting dozens of teenage girls.
