Roger Stone and Bubba the Love Sponge are buddies?

Stone fundraised for his legal defense fund in Clearwater, but first lunched with ‘dear friend’ Bubba.

Roger Stone, President Donald Trump’s political whisperer, and Todd Clem, aka Tampa Bay shock jock “Bubba the Love Sponge," are both brash and provocative Florida men who have parlayed their media savvy into epic careers matched by mighty falls.

And apparently they’re friends.

The two lunched together at a Tampa Bay area World of Beer on Tuesday, according to Bubba’s Facebook page. In a photo caption, Bubba — wearing a “Make American Great Again” red hat — called Stone a “dear friend” and encouraged his followers (Bubba’s Army) to support the embattled Trump insider in his legal fundraising campaign.

Stone is one of 34 people indicted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in his probe of Russia interference in the 2016 election. He was arrested earlier this year at his South Florida home and is accused of being the middleman who sought a meeting on behalf of the Trump campaign with WikiLeaks to discuss thousands of hacked Democratic emails. Obstruction and witness tampering are among the charges.

Since his arrest, Stone has hit the road to raise money for his Tampa-based legal defense fund. He met with supporters at a Clearwater bar on Tuesday night.

The Tampa Bay Times has chronicled the rise and fall of both Stone and Clem in recent months. Here are a couple deep dives on both worth reading.
