The next steps for Florida after the state’s stay-at-home order expires will be unveiled Wednesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday from the White House.

Sitting alongside President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, DeSantis rebuffed criticism about his response to the coronavirus pandemic, insisting Florida has fared better than states that put in place what he called “draconian orders."

Still, DeSantis cautioned Florida’s restart will be slow as the state focuses on “building confidence with the public that the next step will be done thoughtfully,” DeSantis said, and “not pretending this virus doesn’t exist."

“I do think there’s a path to do that,” DeSantis said.

What shape that takes will apparently come Wednesday, 24 hours before Florida’s stay-at-home orders expire. DeSantis said a state task for on how to reopen Florida’s economy delivered its report and an announcement is likely in the next day.

Trump commended DeSantis’ approach and did not take issue with how the state plans to proceeds.
