The Rays placed 2B Logan Forsythe on the 15-day disabled list today with a hairline fracture of his left shoulder blade.
Forsythe suffered the injury Monday when he was struck by a pitch in Seattle by Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez. Forsythe left the game and has not played since. Perhaps not coincidently, the Rays have lost all four games with Forsythe out of the lineup.
Steve Pearce is at second base tonight against the A's. Manager Kevin Cash said Pearce and Tim Beckham will see time at second base.
The Rays recalled RHP Danny Farquhar today to add a fresh arm to an overworked bullpen.
Cash said that need was more important than adding an extra infielder, although an extra infielder could be on the way shortly. Taylor Motter has to head the short list of candidates since he can play multiple positions and add flexibility to the bench.
Expect to see a lot of Brandon Guyer at leadoff in place of Forsythe.
Forsythe is batting .308 with a .398 on-base percentage and a .523 slugging percentage.
As for tonight's game, the Rays will try to snap a four-game slide with Matt Andriese.
Andriese made his season debut last Sunday and pitched a career-high seven innings with earn the win in a 3-1 victory at Anaheim.
Here are the lineups for tonight:
