For starters, Rays at Reds, with Ramos hitting 8th

UPDATE, 12:20: Maddon said a main reason for hitting Ramos eighth is that he isn't likely to pitch deep into the game anyway and this could lead to a quicker decision. Also, he liked the way the lineup worked with Rodriguez ninth, then Zobrist, Longoria and Myers.

Maddon said they wanted Zobrist to get a game in the outfield, but it still seems more a question of their confidence in Forsythe playing out there.

UPDATE, 10:55: While the big news this morning is the Rays placing Alex Cobb on the DL with a left oblique strain, the lineup is quite interesting too, as manager Joe Maddon - as he has done previously - his hitting his starting pitcher, Cesar Ramos, eighth and has 1B Sean Rodriguez ninth.

Also, in facing hard-throwing LHP Tony Cingrani, Maddon for the first time this season put Evan Longoria third and Wil Myers fourth. Also, he chose to put Ben Zobrist in LF and Logan Forsythe at 2B, deciding that it was a better defensive alignment after saying during the spring they felt comfortable with Forsythe in the outfield.

Rays lineup:

Zobrist LF,
Jennings cf,
Longoria 3b,
Myers rf,
Forsythe 2b,
Escobar SS,
Hanigan c,
Ramos p,
S-Rod 1b

Reds lineup:

Hamilton cf
Votto 1b
Phillips 2b
Frazier 3b
Bruce rf
Ludwick lf
Mesoraco c
Cozart ss
Cingrani p

DEVELOPING: After winning two games by scoring three runs, the Rays are looking for a sweep of the Reds in today's matinee series finale.

It may take a few more runs that that today, as Cesar Ramos - who has been their long reliever - will make his first start in place of injured LHP Matt Moore.

One question for the Rays today is the health of reliever Joel Peralta, who was ill and not available on Saturday. Another is the status of Saturday starter Alex Cobb, who had some tightness on his left side.

Saturday's 1-0 win was the Rays second in four games, as they beat the Royals that way on Tuesday. The Rays say they are first AL team since the '86 Royals with two 1-0 wins in their first 12 games of season, and the first major-league team since the 1973 Cubs to do so on the road.

Lineups when available.
