UPDATE, 4:52: The Rays lost 5-1. Cash said they will be cautious with Pearce for a couple days. 1B James Loney was sent home this morning due to flu-like symptoms. Injured C Justin O'Conner was optioned to the minors in the first "cut" of spring.

UPDATE, 4:02:
Archer said he felt great and his stuff was in "mid-season form" but he was trying to do too much, and it showed. ... Souza said he was a bit too excited but the biggest takeaway was being to swing and throw at game speed with no issues.

UPDATE, 12:14: Pearce was scratched from the Rays lineup due to right calf tightness. Logan Morrison moves to 1B, Taylor Motter becomes the DH.

UPDATE, 9:51: Cash said both Colome and Cedeno will be counted on to get important outs for them, with Colome used at times for more than one inning. Cedeno will be limited to one at the most. Cash also praised Cedeno's quiet leadership in the bullpen. ... Cash said he was fully confident Souza, who makes his spring debut today, will be ready for the season. ... LHP Jonny Venters and RHP Neil Wagner, both rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, both said their first bullpen sessions of the spring went well on Tuesday and they will throw again on Friday, with hopes of getting back to the majors at some point this season.

DEVELOPING: The Rays are back in Port Charlotte - the first of four home games in a five-day stretch - to take on the Blue Jays with All-Star ace Chris Archer on the mound for his second spring start.

Archer is expected to face the Blue Jays for real on April 3 in the season opener at the Trop.

The Rays are 3-4 this spring, having alternated wins and losses.

The team is meeting this morning with a sleep specialist.
