UPDATE, 4:38: RHP Alex Cobb underwent successful Tommy John surgery today. The procedure was performed today in Pensacola by renowned specialist Dr. James Andrews.

"Everything that I've heard is it went really well," manager Kevin Cash said, "and now the rehab process starts."

LHP Jake McGee (offseason elbow surgery) threw a socreless inning Wednesday night. Cash said he expects McGee to rejoin the Rays at some point this weekend. McGee will likely inherit high-leverage situations, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be the team's only closer.

"I don't anticipate anybody assuming any role," Cash said.
