In with the old.

So the motto with Fox must be this year, because the network announced today at the Television Critics Association winter meeting in Pasadena, Calif., that it is making new versions of two of its old hits, 24 and Prison Break. This is on the heels of reviving one of its other old hit shows, The X-Files in a miniseries set to begin Jan. 24 (in case you somehow missed the 500 TV spots or my 500 blog posts on the subject).

The 24 spin-off comes as little surprise given that Fox already briefly revived the series (original run 2000 to 2010) in 2014 as 24: Live Another Day and there was an official Indian spinoff (starring Anil Kapoor, who played Omar Hassan in the original). But don't expect Jack Bauer this time. Kiefer Sutherland is not expected to return, as the new series, called 24: Legacy, features a new story and characters combating terrorism.

The Prison Break revival, on the other hand, will see original stars return. According to Variety, "Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will reprise their roles as brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, though no premiere date has been set." According to the Hollywood Reporter, execs hinted that the show is set internationally and will run for nine episodes. The original show ran from 2005 to 2009.

Network execs also hinted that The X-Files could return again sometime after this month's six-episode run ends, the stars' busy schedules willing, and at the same time creator Chris Cater revealed that he actually wrote a third X-Files movie that his wife talked him out of.

If you're rolling your eyes at the Fox's inability to let old shows lie, you should also know Fox also renewed Empire and new hit Scream Queens on Friday while questioning how much longer Bones could last.
