In 2004, Hewitt Packard ran a popular printer commercial that featured an obscure 1968 album cut by The Kinks called Picture Book. Until then, I knew Picture Book only as the obscure song by Seattle's Young Fresh Fellows off their 1989 This One's For the Ladies album.
While they never achieved any chart success, The Young Fresh Fellows have enjoyed an avid cult following and have been name-dropped by They Might Be Giants in the song Twisting and have even made an early appearance on SIT '80s podcast Beer Money was a Name That '80's Tune on the dubious "Drinking in the '80s" podcast.
Lead singer Scott McCaughey is a friend of everybody in the music business and keeps busy the Young Fresh Fellows and his side projects of The Minus 5 and The Baseball Project, not to mention being the unofficial fifth member of REM from 1994 to its breakup in 2011.
