KENTUCKY DERBY: may the horse be with you

If it's the first Saturday in May, then it's time for the Kentucky Derby. Omaha Beach and Roadster are the favorite horses in the first leg of the Triple Crown at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Care to watch some thoroughbreds run in person? Tampa Bay Downs has a 12-race card before the Derby. YOUTH ICE HOCKEY: girls tryouts

Become a part of the Tampa Bay Lightning girls travel program, whose 12- and 14-under teams compete in the Statewide Florida Hockey League. The 16U team competes in the Lightning High School Hockey League program. 2:30 p.m. Saturday. And all ages can learn fundamentals of the sport. UnitedHealthcare Girls on the Run 5K: More than 600 girls from elementary and middle schools from Sarasota to Tampa will graduate from their after-school 5K training program in this annual spring race along a course that starts in downtown St. Petersburg.
