The St. Pete Youth Farm MLK Day of Service brought out dozens of volunteers and supporters to continue work associated with building the urban farm in St. Petersburg.

Members of the St. Pete Youth Farm organize their check in station for the organization's MLK Day of Service. Dozens of volunteers and supporters chipped in on Monday January 18, 2021 to continue the work associated with building out the urban farm located on property just behind the Enoch Davis Center in St. Petersburg, Fl. Layers of mulch and soil were set down as well as a bed of micro greens planted.
The Youth Farm will be the home of a newly-funded hydroponic greenhouse project, thanks to a $25,000 grant from the Ford Foundation spearheaded by USF St. Petersburg. The purpose of the greenhouse project in partnership with the youth farm and other local organizations is to fight food insecurity within the community by growing fresh produce all year long.
The St. Pete Youth Farm started its pilot program in the summer of 2019 and completed it's first year last summer. The urban farm project encourages creative thinking and personal growth as students learn about agriculture and financial literacy. BOYZELL HOSEY | Times
