The Hernando County School District will soon be accepting magnet school applications for the 2014-15 school year, according to a newly released timeline.
The biggest change: For the first time, parents applying to Chocachatti Elementary School and Challenger K-8 School of Science and Mathematics will need to fill out an online application. Those applying for Nature Coast Technical High School will still complete a paper application.
Despite some debate, each of the schools will still require interested parents or guardians to attend an orientation meeting. Earlier this month, the School Board considered a recommendation to eliminate the mandatory orientations at Challenger and Chocachatti. Board members nixed the idea.
The district will accept applications for Challenger and Chocachatti from Nov. 5 to Dec. 13.
The Nature Coast application period runs from Dec. 18 to 20.
Each school will host two orientation meetings in November.
Parents will be notified of selection in February.
