It is a beloved fairy tale that became an Academy Award-winning Disney animated film. It then became a modern musical classic with a 13-year run on Broadway, and it has been produced in 37 countries.

Stage West Community Playhouse will bring Disney's Beauty and the Beast to life when the show opens at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31 on the playhouse's Main Stage at 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill.

For the few who are unfamiliar with the tale, it tells the story of Belle, a young woman forced to live with the monstrous Beast, who really is a prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end. But, of course, that is easier said than done. And time is running out. If Beast does not learn his lesson soon, his curse becomes permanent, and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

The show is directed by Raymond "Brady" Lay and stars Evy Poulis as Belle and Mitchell Gonzalez as Beast. Other roles include: Barry Denham as Maurice, Clint Shephard as Gaston, Chay Nott as Le Fou, Kyle Viveiros as Gogsworth, David Daly as Lumiere, Patricia Gonzalez as Mrs. Potts, Suzanne Meck as Babette, Nicki Poulis as Madame de la Grand Bouche and Jacob Marco and Charlton Smith sharing the role of Chip.

The show continues with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31-Feb. 2, and Feb. 8; and matinees at 2 p.m. Feb. 3, 9 and 10. Tickets are $25; with student, group and other discounts available. Visit stagewestflorida.com or call the box office at (352) 683-5113.
