Country club residents get their way: Loop Spring Hill development won't have golf cart access into Silverthorn

BROOKSVILLE — County commissioners on Tuesday approved a new 90-unit housing community east of Silverthorn and west of the Suncoast Parkway.

The community on 40 acres, called the Loop Spring Hill, would feature lots of approximately 70 feet by 155 feet and homes with a unique feature at the front entrance. Each would be equipped with a secure package delivery portal where parcels or even foods could be locked in from the outside.

Developer Acorn to Oaktree Investments had originally suggested in their plan a connection with the Silverthorn Country Club. The hope was to provide pedestrian and golf cart access to the community's golf course and country club facilities. But the residents and homeowners association of the gated, upscale Silverthorn community strongly opposed the idea, and it was dropped from the plan presented to commissioners.

Residents would access the new community via Jumper Loop, a road built by the Florida Department of Transportation parallel to the Suncoast Parkway, which would connect to Barclay Avenue north of the community.
