Hernando Letters to the Editor for July 19

Re: Property tax hike likely option | July 12

To Hernando County Commissioners: I urge all of you to rethink the 14-percent tax increase for property owners of Hernando County. This number is completely unacceptable.

I would ask all of you to look into raising the county sales tax to help with the budget shortfall. The citizens of Hernando County cannot have commissioners in office who raise property taxes by 14 percent.

Again, I urge each and every one of you to rethink the preposterous idea of raising property taxes by 14 percent. There are new houses being built in Hernando County, so where is that new tax revenue going?

Eric Nelski, Spring Hill

Why, with all the growth, is the Republican-controlled county commission trying to raise property taxes, landfill and garbage rates?

Does the county not charge impact fees? We had an increase in garbage rates last year. Was that to pay for the giant cans no one wanted? Thank you.
