Hometown Hernando for May 3

TAKE OFF POUNDS SENSIBLY CHAPTER 461: Tops Chapter 461 of Weeki Wachee recently sponsored the second in a series of informational and educational programs entitled "Nutrition in Our Golden Years." The program was presented by Laura Acosta, a registered and licensed dietitian-nutritionist and lecturer at the University of Florida in Gainesville. In 2017, she was named Florida's "Recognized Dietitian of the Year." Acosta's discussion focused on the nutritional plate of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy, as well as the importance of daily consumption of all of them. She also spoke about the need of some fats and carbohydrates that help digest food properly. The chapter also welcomed TOPS Southeast Coordinator Claudia Gray, as well as other TOPS chapter members from the area. The local TOPS chapter meets 9 to 11 a.m. Thursdays at Nativity Lutheran Church. For details, call Pat Leopold, (352) 592-4595, or Myrna Lax, (352) 686-9243.
