TAMPA — Human remains were found by a worker in a watery ditch off N Dale Mabry Highway and Ehrlich Road on July 6. Now they’ve been identified as a Pasco County man who was reported missing a year ago.
Victor Torres was 59 when he was reported missing on July 9, 2018, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
His sister took him to an 8:30 a.m. eye appointment that day to the 14000 block of N Dale Mabry Highway, according to a report filed with the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, aka NamUs. When she returned to pick him up at about 7:30 p.m., the report said, he was missing.
His shoes, cell and backpack were found at a nearby bus stop. But the report said Torres was never seen or heard from since.
Foul play is not suspected in his death, the Sheriff’s Office said. His family has been told that his remains have been identified. His family could not be reached for comment on Friday.
Authorities did not say when he may have died or what the cause of death was. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office said their final report is not yet finished. The remains will be taken to the University of South Florida for more examination.
