In 2008, Faronda Davis opened ABC Chefs Cooking Academy in St. Louis, and now she is expanding with new locations in the Tampa Bay area.
A location is slated to open at Westfield Citrus Park this summer, as well as a location at North Tampa Christian Academy in Wesley Chapel.
ABC Chefs Cooking Academy is a cooking school for kids, teens and families. Hands-on classes and summer camps allow students to make new recipes and learn about different cuisines.
“The kids get to come and they get to make 3 to 4 recipes,” said Davis. “Everything we do is made from scratch.”
Summer camp themes include Bakeshop Favorites and Welcome to Italy. There is also a MasterChef Junior camp which has attracted kids from around the world thanks to Davis’s 16 year old daughter, Chef Ayla.
“She’s a celebrity chef,” said Davis.
Ayla has competed on several Food Network shows, as well as Fox’s MasterChef Junior.
“We’ve had kids come train with us to make it on the TV shows,” said Davis. “It’s been amazing.”
In addition to kid’s classes, the Citrus Park location will feature a DIY bakery. Customers can purchase cakes and cupcakes and decorate them on site. Adult classes, birthday parties and holiday workshops will be offered as well.
A grand opening celebration will be held at the Citrus Park location in early August.
ABC Chefs Cooking Academy is at 5585 E County Line Road in Wesley Chapel, and at 8021 Citrus Park Town Center near the Westfield Citrus Park foodcourt. For more information or to register for classes, call (813) 385-4095 or visit abcchefsacademy.com.
