TAMPA — A self-described crafty person, Leslie Jones has attended over 18 do-it-yourself workshops at Teal Plank Workshop in Brooksville.
Now that she is retiring after 30 years with the same company, Jones has decided to turn her creativity into a new career. She and husband, Frank Jones, are the newest franchise owners of Teal Plank Workshop Cross Creek, which is slated to open in early June.
"It was perfect timing for us," said Frank Jones.
Amber and Josh Marcotte opened the original Teal Plank Workshop in Brooksville in 2016, and then Stephanie and Keith Adams opened a location in Odessa in 2018.
Teal Plank Workshop offers DIY workshops where guests can paint wooden items such as signs, wine caddies, farmhouse shelves, blanket ladders, dog bowl stands and Florida-shaped cutouts. There are also farmhouse furniture workshops.
Guests go online and choose a workshop they'd like to attend and an item they'd like to paint. During the three-hour session, they go through a process.
First, sand the item.
Next, choose between distressing the wood or moving on to the step of painting or staining the wood.
After it dries, stencils and more paint are used for a design. A large variety of colors are available, and special colors are added during holidays.
Both private and public workshops are available, as well as kids parties. The workshops are ideal for corporate events, team building, girls' night out, bachelorette parties, birthday parties and more. Guests may bring their own food, beer and wine.
Teal Plank Workshop Cross Creek is at 10353-D Cross Creek Blvd, Building 10. An Open House is scheduled from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. For more information, call (813) 994-5665 or visit tealplankworkshops.com.
